"FIDEL" DARES MALE RAPE AS A STORY OF COURAGE (SHOWING TODAY - JANUARY 20)

The film, FIDEL,  which daringly touched the subject of MALE RAPE is showing today at Robinson's Galleria Cinema 7.
Fidel Tecson went to an undisclosed Middle East country to be an Overseas Filipino Worker like most of our countrymen nowadays - who by stroke of bad luck suffered sexual attacks from his male employer. Fidel killed him in blind rage - and found himself waiting in line in the death row [under the barbaric punishment system of beheading]. In the story, he consistently showed no remorse by admitting his crime and resigned all his hopes of being acquitted - until a Filipina TV journalist flew all the way to cover his story. Will he survive and recover from this excruciating ordeal? "How far would a man go to defend his dignity?"
Fidel topbills newly-discovered indie sensation Lance Raymundo - with a remarkable dramatic performance in the title role. Also starring are Andrea Del Rosario, Filipina Hollywood actress Marife Necesito, Von Arroyo, Jao Mapa, Fons Deza, Maria Isabel Lopez, and Miss Snooky Serna in a very sensitive portrayal of a nun who helped Fidel accept his bad fate and defend himself in order to claim his life to justice.
The film is adeptly directed by first-time director Mark Shandii Bacolod and written (and produced) by Charlotte Dianco. Dianco successfully entered her script at the 2007 Cinemalaya Film Festival as a semi-finalist. Bacolod's next indie feature, Ben & Sam, is scheduled for release next month.
The film is exhibited recently at the First Filipino International Film Festival in Los Angeles, California. This independent feature will also compete in another yet still undisclosed film festival abroad. Also, Fidel is pre-selected at this year's Berlin International Film Festival.
FIDEL is showing today until January 26 at ROBINSON'S INDIESINE Cinema 7.
